| Comments: | Hello, I have traced my Hodgman ancestors back to Dover in Kent England. It seems they were mariners and Thomas moved north to the Whitby area in the early 1800's. I am in the process of linking Thomas to a James Hodgman and Susanna Elizabeth Newby who married in Dover in 1795. I was always told by my grandfather that the Hodgman family originated in Germany however I have not found any evidence for this. My immediate family have a get together each year we call it Hodgfest!! Loverly to visit your site and see Hodgman's online. |

| Comments: | Please see http://obituaries.themercury.com.au/notice/497302019 My mother, Vera, found some old letters written by Juliana while she and the children were making the passage to Tasmania on the Kent. She shared those letters with family members whom she discovered through writing to the Mercury: the originals are with me. They are long and, at times, very distressing. Members of the Hodgeman and Lade families visited my mother in England and she returned their visit - there was wonderful hospitality and, I believe, mutual delight. I recall meeting an elder member of the Hodgeman family whose first name now escapes me, who was a most endearing gentlemen. I believe your family is pretty well documented but, nevertheless, I'd be most happy to pass on anything that could be of interest. Kind regards Richard |

| Comments: | Hello I am not related to the Hodgmans in any way but have been researching the passengers from the ship Six Sisters, which my gtgtgrandparents James and Jane Dedman came on to Geelong in 1853. A Mary Belsey, 19, servant, was on the ship also. I have not found any info on her in Australia, though I did find her on the England Census 1851 living at Juliana Hodgman's parents home as a servant! I found my way to you while trying to trace Juliana's brothers in case one of them followed Mary to Australia. In a way 2 of them did, but ended up in Tasmania. Am curious to know what Aaron Hodgman did and if the brothers were reunited with their sister. Juliana and co. look quite affluent in the photos. Many surprises emerge during research, don't they! My reason to be researching the ship's passengers is that 130 descendants of ship Six Sisters' passengers celebrated the 160th year of arrival of the ship to Geelong Vic, back in January of this year. I am in the process of linking Thomas to a James Hodgman and Susanna Elizabeth Newby who married in Dover in 1795. I was always told by my grandfather that the Hodgman family originated in Germany however I have not found any evidence for this. She shared those letters with family members whom she discovered through writing to the Mercury: the originals are with me. They are long and, at times, very distressing. Members of the Hodgeman and Lade families visited my mother in England and she returned their visit - there was wonderful hospitality and, I believe, mutual delight. I recall meeting an elder member of the Hodgeman family whose first name now escapes me, who was a most endearing gentlemen. A Mary Belsey, 19, servant, was on the ship also. I have not found any info on her in Australia, though I did find her on the England Census 1851 living at Juliana Hodgman's parents home as a servant! I found my way to you while trying to trace Juliana's brothers in case one of them followed Mary to Australia. In a way 2 of them did, but ended up in Tasmania. Am curious to know what Aaron Hodgman did and if the brothers were reunited with their sister. Juliana and co. look quite affluent in the photos. Many surprises emerge during research, don't they! My reason to be researching the ship's passengers is that 130 descendants of ship Six Sisters' passengers celebrated the 160th year of arrival of the ship to Geelong Vic, back in January of this year. | Comments: | My grandfather's name was Lawrence William Hodgman he was born Sept.5,1923 his parents names were George and Vivian Hodgman, my great grandfather (George) had a sister named Nellie Hodgman who later married a Cartwright Lawrence had 9 siblings my grandfather Lawrence passed away August 9, 1996 in Mpls,MN. He was in the Army an Airforce for about 23 years all together. My grandpa married in 1951 to Clarice Joyce Vick also from Mpls,Mn. If I can think of any more info I will get in contact with you.
